In the last few decades, learning a language has gained significance and is one of the fundamental prerequisities for many jobs. Especially multinational corporations are seeking multilingual employees who are able to take over responsibility across borders in order to help the company grow and conquer foreign markets.
Many know that the the knowledge of more than one language has become indispensable in many job sectors. The only question is: "What is the most effective and fastest way of learning a foreign language?"
There are multiple was you can learn a language. You might be lucky enough to grow up in a bilingual family and learn two or more languages from birth. Most of us, however, learn a second language in school, later at university or at a private training institution. There are many institutions who offer different methods and types of language training. Some even opt for doing a language course in a foreign country or work or study abroad to improve their language skills. All of those methods are not compatible with the agendas of full-time employees, however, especially those of managers and supervisors. Many of the aforementioned practices don't suit their busy schedules and many give up learning a language in the end because they feel like it eats up the little energy and time they have left at the end of the day.
However, there is still one very cost- and time-efficent way to learn a language: Learning a language online with a native teacher. I have suggested this to many people who come to me and tell me about their language objectives and how hard it is to accomplish them. The most common response is that they would rather learn a language in a real classroom because they need to be face-to-face with the language trainer. However, they disregard the multiple benefits of learning a language online.
- Learning a language online will give you the opportunity to speak and learn with a native speaker of the language you want to learn. You will not only learn the language but also find out more about a foreign culture, acquire a native accent and learn slang, colloquialism and phrases that you won't learn with a non-native teacher.
- You can learn a language online from the comfort of home, your office, the hotel you are at during a business trip or wherever you might think it is convenient to take a lesson. All you need is a stable internet connection, your laptop or PC and a headset to be able to take a class online.
- If you like to learn with several people, you can even learn a language online with a group of people. And learning in an online group might be even more interesting because you get together with people who live in different countries who can share their experiences and their culture with you and listen to what you have to say about your own country. And all the while, you will be practicing speaking the language you want to improve.
- Learning a language online will save you lots of time AND money. You don't have to waste your time traveling to a language school and pay gas or tickets for public transport. You just have to sit down at your computer or with your laptop on the couch and enjoy the class.
