The Goethe Language Certificates


The most renown German language certificates, the Goethe-Zertifikate, are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and cover all levels from A1 (beginners) to C2 (advanced learners). There are different exams depending on the level but also on the motivations of the learner. Some exams target students while others are destined for professionals. The following tables gives an overview of how many lessons you need in order to be able to pass the respective language examination.




Goethe Zertifikat A1: Fit in Deutsch 1

80 to 200 45-minute teaching units
Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Start Deutsch 1

80 to 200 45-minute teaching units

Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch 2

200 to 350 45-minute teaching units

Prüfung Wirtschaftsdeutsch International (PWD)

800 to 1,000 45-minute teaching units

Goethe-Zertifikat C1

at least 1000 teaching units at 45 minutes
